What it does
A calm, private way to keep your count
Tap or bead counting
Count each repetition of your naam or mantra with a tap or a bead swipe - whichever matches how you already practice.
Mala and round tracking
A round completes automatically once a mala is finished, so you always know how many you have done today without counting rounds by hand.
Daily targets and streaks
Set a daily count or a number of malas to reach, and see your streak build as you keep the practice going.
Multiple mantras
Keep separate counters for different naam, mantras or practices, each with its own running total.
A private history of your practice
Past sessions and counts are kept so you can look back over time - stored on your device only.
Works fully offline
Smaran needs no internet connection to count, save or show your history. Nothing about your practice leaves your device.
How it counts
Built around the mala, not just a number
A japa mala traditionally has 108 beads, so Smaran completes a round every 108 counts by default. Set your own round length to match a shorter mala or a different practice, and the app tracks whole rounds for you from there.
Set your own round
Change the count-per-round to match the mala you use, and set a daily target in counts or in whole rounds.

Frequently asked questions
Does Smaran require an account?
